Sep 25, 2024
Quebec documentarian Jean-Pierre Roy

Political filmmaker and documentarian Jean-Pierre Roy will provide a rare opportunity for students and guests to discover the major social and political movements in modern Qu茅bec history. He will offer a unique analysis of the political and identity-related aims of the French-Canadian and Qu茅b茅cois peoples by presenting and commenting on short excerpts from three of his acclaimed documentaries: Questions nationales (2009), devoted to Quebec's desire for independence, La langue 脿 terre (2013), concerned with the anglicization of Qu茅bec, and Jacques Parizeau et son pays imagin茅 (2023), dedicated to the life and career of the former premier. What's more, as a former student of political science, he will also talk about the interplay between his career as a filmmaker and his studies in political science. In short, this guest lecture will give students a good overview of the history of Qu茅bec from the Quiet Revolution to the end of the twentieth century. Lecture in French and English. Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 10:50-12:05 in Sullivan 207B. All welcome!
